FAQs

Who is behind this project?

This is a personal project of James Lang and Katie Tzanidou. We’re both long-time UX researchers and managers, who care about the future of our industry. James is part of the Together By Design collective, while Katie is UX Research Director at Google.

What will you do with the outputs?

We hope that the outputs will help in two ways:

  • Highlighting opportunities for skills development and new career directions for UX researchers.

  • Shaping stakeholders' & employers’ understanding of the value of UX research.

How does it work?

Check out our explanation here

Is my submission confidential?

We'll synthesise your response with other submissions into a summary report that will be shared here. Your name, email address or other identifying information won't be included in the report or anywhere else. If at any point you want to remove your submission from the synthesised report, or withdraw it entirely, please contact us.

What are your timeframes?

The project is open-ended. However we expect to share an updated synthesis every two months or so through 2025.

Do you use AI tools?

Yes, we use Claude by Anthropic as part of our synthesis process and to help with some administration tasks. We choose Claude because of its stringent privacy policy; in particular, the fact that data we provide is not used to train the model.

How do you weight responses in your synthesis?

All submissions are treated equally in our synthesised report - there’s no weighting by length of submission, years of experience or any other factor. When it comes to our own intepretation, then obviously we will lean into the evidence we find most compelling. That’s why this is a separate, subjective output.

Can I quote your outputs?

All of the outputs are free to use under Creative Commons license CC BY-SA 4.0. We just require you to attribute them to Hopeful Futures for UX Research in doing so.

Can I create my own article or interpretation based on your synthesis?

By all means. Your interpretation of the synthesis may differ from ours: a plurality of voices and analyses is welcome. Please be sure to credit it, and let us know what you come up with!

How can I get in touch with you?

The best way is to reach out via LinkedIn: James | Katie
